For example, Thomas' headstone was placed on Ann Fall's grave in memoriam after her death. The birth date on the headstone is 10 May 1795. However, his indexed birth record notes his birth date as 19 May 1795. Family tradition states that Thomas was possibly scouting on church assignment or personally to improve the family circumstances and was killed by a Native American after unknowingly entering a restricted area. Ann Fall was made known of this by a companion of the Native American who killed her husband. He was killed in the summer or fall of 1858 in the Parowan, Iron, Utah Territory, United States area.
